#11: I M D I – Revealed behind the camera…

Under the label of I never criticize..., I’m going to criticize my own film I Might Did It (IMDI here after in the article.) today. A brave attempt it can be said to identify the slack side of own. I won’t say it criticism but actually a kind of confession of what went wrong while the making of the film.

At the beginning of pre-productions, IMDI seemed to become a real blockbuster due to its blood-chilling, gripping screenplay, the music was already admired by the listeners and frankly a team, after successful two hits of Midnight Madness and Kuchh Manziley Aisy, was confidently looking forward for its hat trick.

But… Difficulties started raining two days prior to shooting schedule when Mansi (Played Ishitaa in Kuchh Manziley Aisy), casted for role of Preeti Sengupta in the film, informed that she won’t be able to attend the shoot at the state when we were already missing Hardik. The screenplay, with no other chances left, was modified on the last night before the shoot started. I still remember, with Kadir and Sadik, we had a perspiring night in winter on discussing what changes are to be made to make up for lost of an important character. Still, we managed it somehow but it was the starting blow to crack the dam.

The first day was blind from the beginning. The lights weren’t of required type and we lost half of first day in search of proper lighting. We began shooting after lunch and at the end of the day we had just a single shot of title credit. “Aal izz well…” I thought, but it wasn’t. Next two days too passed without a considerable work. Every night, standing alone in my balcony, I was used to think that this isn’t right time for the movie and should be postponed. And every morning, looking at the rising sun from the balcony, I was again refilling self with all the passion within to do it.

Things started to work after third day when Nildeep, writer of my team whom I consider my backbone, returned from his friend’s marriage and joined. We, with still small hurdles like curtains had caught fire and all that; finished the remaining shooting within our time schedule. Mehul gave his best of Cinematography till date under Falguni’s Art Direction. I was satisfied until the post-production began.

Editing was done at satisfactory level but dubbing was a nightmare followed by a not so effective background score. I confess it could have been better. Still the trailer or first look of the movie became much popular likewise the theme music (Best of mine till now). Foram gave the phenomenal Lyrics ever. Nidhi did give her best (like she does always) in title track I Might Did It. Darshan give up at the last time and I, knowing it wasn’t my forte, sang Kyun tum saath na the mere… along with climax song. Confessing again, I gave my worst performance of singing there, which in turn in spite of good music became not so good songs.

People reviewed it as a good attempt for it’s never like before theme where every suspect confesses that I’ve did the murder unlike other suspense movies of bollywood. But I have to admit that in spite of having good capabilities to become a hit like previous two, it didn’t work. Still I Might Did It will stand as an important milestone of my life because I learned the basics of rule by failing to accomplish them and that’s how I strengthened more than before. When people unknowingly asks who made it? I reply proudly… I Might Did It. – DJ.

#14: Dardura Special. Hail Darduras...!

Darduras are here... Darduras are there... These Darduras are everywhere...! First I need to explain what is Dardura? But the right question is who is Dardura? He/she is a kind of species of human being. You can say either is an alien that looks like human being. "Yatra dardura vaktarah, tatra maun hi shobhe chhe..." like of an ukti is there in Sanskrit. Which means when frogs are lecturing around you, better you keep silence. Hope now you have identified the Dardura as it's always there every next step of our life. The pity is you can't do anything with these Darduras. They are either your relatives or your elders or the ones you ought to respect. No wonder they have never been to Junagadh yet they'll advise you how to climb Mount Everest. They'll keep interfering your life untill you really feel there's no life in your life. You are angry. You wanna kill them. You wanna eat them. But these darduras are eternal creatures. Nainam chhindati shashtrani, ...

#24: Case 7492_Elvira's Premonition of Death. Part I

“Weekends are as refreshing as white sand beaches here.” Henry said while gearing car to the top gear. Traffic was not much on highway because of late night. They were driving back from Rostock to Munich. “We never have weekends Henry.” Derick replied with his heavy voice. “Some jobs aren’t time lined and we should respect that thing. Doctors, Fire fighters, Police all are sort of…” By the time his cell rang. “Mr. Jefferson…” A girl was there another side. “Elvira…” Derick identified her voice vacillating. “You seem tensed.” “I just had a premonition Mr. Jefferson.” She said reluctantly. “I had seen my death.” “What…?” Derick couldn’t believed his ears. “Elvira…” “I know it’s difficult to hear what I’m saying.” She said. “But someone gonna kill me tonight. I had seen my death in front of my eyes, my last premonition ever…” “Don’t panic Elvira.” Derick said. “We have just left from Rostock so will be there tomorrow morning but I’m calling Alfred. He’ll be ...

#48: Notes on Filmmaking _ Introduction.

Hi folks. As promised ago, I’m starting here some notes on Filmmaking related things. We’ll begin with introduction & as it is the first one, I’ll keep it very basic and fundamental. We will move forward in detailed things one by one. So let’s begin. In earlier days, Films were used to be silent i.e. only visuals, no sound. Then came talkies and it gave a meaning to the scene. So a film became an audio-visual presentation. But not every audio-visual is a film. A footage of a street with all background voices/noises or a video of a birthday party has both audio and video but it is not a film. So how films differ from these? Well, a film should convey a story. If that street or that birthday party is having a character that portrays some part of a story and then that footage has become a part of the film. Cool, so more or less a story is needed to be told. Now the way you convey the story is what we call a screenplay. I.e. how will the scenes be played on the screen? (N...
