#13: And we named it 13 CityStreets Productions.

Actually I was been suggested to write a post on Bharat Bandh by Darshan but being post number 13, I was keen to write something about the history of 13 CityStreets Productions. (and to be frank, I tried to criticize about Bandh but couldn't establish any thing.)

So, let me welcome you to the curtain raiser of the trend-making, the one and only... 13 CityStreets Productions. To be precise, it happened exactly before 3 years nd 5 months in my hostel room with another two history makers besides me.

Those were the days of culfest in college. And we had planned a drama to perform. Being from Mechanical dept, it wasn't easy to get girls to perform in drama though we managed to get few after perspiring hardwork of a week. But god knows why no one was paying enough attention to rehearsal.

So on that dark night, we three, (Hardik, Nildeep nd DJ off course.) were thinking what to do now while facing the frustration.
"Damn the drama. No one is interested." I said.
"Then what?" Hardik asked.
"I've one more script with less characters nd no need of girls." I replied.
"what's the theme?" Nildeep asked.
"Two thieves, one idiot nd another serious, makes chaos in a home at midnight." I said.
"but we can't perform two drama at a time." Hardik said.
"What if we show it on the screen?" I said.
"You mean movie." Nildeep said. "Sounds good."
"We'll be needed a camera." Hardik said. "Mehul has it. We can have a talk with him."
"We can offer him a role in movie." Nildeep said.
"We need four characters." I said. "Suits perfectly."
"What's name of drama, I mean movie now?" Hardik asked.
"Haven't thought yet." I replied. "Midnight Madness..." I said after a while. (Name was inspired from the game Midtown Madness.)
"Good one." Nildeep said. "We need a name for the production house also."
"Whatever it may be, but it should have number 13 in it." I said. "It's my lucky number."
"Mine too." Hardik said.
"No probs." Nildeep said...

This is how it named 13 CityStreets Productions. Though I had thought that I'll include the making of Midnight Madness too in this post. But let it have another dedicated post.

So this was the base on which the platform of 13 CityStreets Productions rooted. The saga will continue with next project Maanas. And I'll continue writing this for you. Keep reading Random Strokes. - DJ.

  1. hey dj, i read this blog very late after u wrote, though very happy,,after reading this.....!!
it is good to see,,,you have used your memory power as well as imagination in this blog....really very nice.....!!
those days are quite unforgettable any way..!!
here i would like to add something in this,,,
becus it's about 13th citystreets production, so how can we forget our Mr.producer. we have been always blaming him for not producing(i mean by payment) any thing. But i would like mention here that he had sponsored the location ((which was the only costly thing)) for the first film of the production house.(that is other fact this was the only reason why we made him producer)
(there are also similar facts about writer and cinematographer also...... but not now...!!)

    some other facts.....
13th is also the lucky number of arekar's father ,,,,i don't know about arekar,,, and it also my lucky number as well as birth date.....!!!
we love u our dear dear "13".....!!!

#11: I M D I – Revealed behind the camera…

Under the label of I never criticize..., I’m going to criticize my own film I Might Did It (IMDI here after in the article.) today. A brave attempt it can be said to identify the slack side of own. I won’t say it criticism but actually a kind of confession of what went wrong while the making of the film. At the beginning of pre-productions, IMDI seemed to become a real blockbuster due to its blood-chilling, gripping screenplay, the music was already admired by the listeners and frankly a team, after successful two hits of Midnight Madness and Kuchh Manziley Aisy, was confidently looking forward for its hat trick. But… Difficulties started raining two days prior to shooting schedule when Mansi (Played Ishitaa in Kuchh Manziley Aisy), casted for role of Preeti Sengupta in the film, informed that she won’t be able to attend the shoot at the state when we were already missing Hardik. The screenplay, with no other chances left, was modified on the last night before the shoot started. I

#16: On the Edge...!

A tough decision, I've taken to write this but... This is where I am right now... On the Edge...! It took 12 years and 4 months to begin the first step towards the destination of my life. In march-1998, my eyes saw a dream, a dream to become a Film Director, a dream of receiving Filmfair award and in reply to that a thanksgiving speech. (that i still murmur all the time, off course with some changes always.) A 13 year old boy had seen the future. Time went on and I started realizing that it's not easy to get in the industry. What to do now to get in? What if I give all the things for what a producer needs to hire many persons. I started composing songs. Stories were my companion since long and I believed (others too..!) that I can dance really well. So I had now story, screenplays and songs written as well as composed, and I can serve as choreographer, cinematographer and as an editor too. My confidence started boosting. I kept doing my work with my studies for next ten years

#23: The Making of Kuchh Manziley Aisy...

As I had promised earlier in post #15: KMA - Can never be criticized..., here comes The making of Kuchh Manziley Aisy... KMA here after, which is, logically third but our first film that was made especially for a film festival. As in post #15: KMA - Can never be criticized..., I’ve already discussed many of the issues, we’ll move directly towards the shoot in this. The story of KMA, unlike I Might Did It, was much focused on two characters Erick and Ishita only and therefore, had freshness in spite of a heavy, serious and motivational subject for students. The only aim was to maintain that freshness on screen also and that’s why we had selected Mr. and Miss College for the main lead. On the very first day, we had opted to shoot the broke up scene of Erick and Ishita at the parking area of our Engineering College, and the peon roaming nearby had started troubling us. He came, he saw and he conquered. Not precisely like that, but he asked us to meet the principal once. And being the D
